Problems with photo’s

Posted by joolzmac on July 27, 2009

Hi all, it seems not all of you have the ability to add photo’s though I know some of you can, not sure if it’s because you already have wordpress blogs and identities?

Anyway, I think we’ll need to get round the photo thing for now by people emailing me their photo’s or posting them onto their own blogs and letting me know and I’ll cut and paste photo into posts.   My email is ladynian at optusnet dot com dot au.   This will work ok, as I have to approve any of your posts anyway, so can easily add photo’s. ..   Frou

23/7  Testing, testing, one, two, three!  Is this thing on??

I am having a go at loading a picture up and trying to follow Ladyfrou’s instructions.

I am in the ‘New post’ screen (visual) and couldn’t find the Add Image button.   I had to click on the ‘Hide/Show Kitchen Sink’ button at the end of  B, I, etc which then bought up more buttons – the Add an Image is now there.

25/7   Still trying to fathom this out.  The Add Image button is greyed out so I don’t think I can put a picture up from this screen.  I’ll hit publish and then try another post.

Cheers – Joolz.

Housekeeping… adding photo’s and links

Posted by ladyfrou on July 22, 2009

Hi all,

Most of you seem to be new to webshots, so thought I’d give you a quick how to in regard to adding photo’s and links to your blogs.

All of the info. below will only make sense if you can see the same post page that I do – as an adminstrator I think I can see more, but let’s see if we can work it out.

When you are in Add New Post mode, you should have a menu across the top of the post screen, that allows you to format  Buttons with B I etc.  You get more options if you are in the visual tab, rather than the HTML tab.

Directly above the B I buttons there should be Upload/ Insert and a series of icons – the picture icon is the first of these buttons.   When you click on the icon you get a pop up box called Add an Image. You need to select Select Files button on the line that says Choose Files to Upload.

Then just browse and select the image you want from your computer – the image will be copied into the blog web library, so it doesn’t create a security issue for you.

When you’ve found your image it’ll crunch and upload the file and you get another pop-up that allows you to rename the image and put in a description.  It also allows you to determine whether you want to centre or left/right the image and it’s size – I tend to use either thumbnail or medium depending on how many images I’m going to load.

Finally, just below the size line there is a button to insert into post.  Click this and your image is saved into the library and also posted into the entry.  If you want to reload the image you can then access it via the upload/insert image button again, but instead of going to your computer to select file, you can go to the media library, where the image is stored (you can then change the size or orientation of the image).

Adding a link – first off – copy the url from your blog or website, highlight the section of text you want to link to, when you do, two greyed buttons on the top row of the toolbar next to the right orientation button become active – click on the first icon (looks like chain links) and a pop up screen appears and you can post your url into Links URL field.  If it worked, the link will be blue and underlined!

Clear as mustard?   Probably not – but have a play next time and see how you go!

Part 5 available now…

Posted by ladyfrou on July 3, 2009

048 Mary WighamWell, the long awaited Part 5 is now available.  Oops, I haven’t even finished Part 1 yet!

Worth reading Jacqueline’s instructions carefully, as depending on how you want to stitch Mary’s name you need to download a different Part 5.

As I’m not doing a reproduction I was going to stitch my own name, rather than Mary’s as well as stitch the initials of family and friends instead of the initials Mary used.

Well, I think I am?   Am going to wait until I’ve stitched the motives and then decide about the placement of initials and words.

What’s everyone else doing?

Mary Wigham Questions

Posted by ladyfrou on July 1, 2009

Some questions from Maree…

Is the size of the sampler 60x60cms…. is that the stitched area or is that the size of linen I need to get?

It depends on the thread count, but if you use the recommended linen of 32ct Permin Lambswool you’ll need a 60cm square, which will give you approx. 4cm’s around the design – the design itself is approx. 20 inches square using 32 count.

The design is almost square 300 x 290 stitches.

I’ve never done a cross stitch that I couldn’t start in the middle…. so how do I know how much to leave on the edge and where to start?

I’m used to starting in the middle too… not sure if there’s another way to do this, but what I did was fold and find the centre of my linen, and then using some waste thread just created a grid by stitching out the left hand corner i.e. 150 stitches to the left and 150 stitches up and then started from that edge… a bit of extra work, but I then felt confident I was starting in the right spot!

I’m using a precut piece of linen that is 70cm square, so I’ve got some leeway if it I’m a bit off!
